Quarter 3 Week 2 Reminders!

We are well on our way to a great quarter. Just a few reminders that we need to make sure families are aware of so their students are a success while here at Sierra! We are noticing a pattern for some of our new students to be just a few minutes late or leave their device at home that we want to improve. Both "tasks" are a part of their daily assignments so that they can get points for being responsible. They can affect their grades because of missed instructions or time to do work.

1) Students need to be through the gate by 8:25am. Any later than that and they are not getting to their class before the late bell. Tardies impact their learning time and can affect their grades. Our program is accelerated and every minute in class counts. After 3 tardies we will call to arrange an in-person conference with their parent or guardian.

2) Students must use their devices daily so they need to bring their laptop every day. We have a very limited amount of loaner laptops here and they work much slower than the students' assigned laptops because they ae shared. Each time a student needs to borrow a laptop it takes at least 10 minutes out of their productivity because the check-out and log in process takes time. Your child will have a better learning experience if they bring their own device. Students that habitually forget their device (3 times or more) will need to have an in-person conference scheduled.

We have begun notifying families for conferences this week. Thank you for your assistance with this!

Reminder: No late start, 8:25am tomorrow!

We had a great first day with our new and returning students! Our campus has grown in numbers and we had almost 100% in attendance on our first day back! We are happy to see all of their smiling faces. It is going to be a great quarter. We want to make sure all parents know that we do not have a late start on Thursdays like FHS. Students are still expected to arrive before 8:25am. For the students in Piru that means getting on the early bus or finding an alternative for transportation.

A Message From Superintendent Schieferle

Dear FUSD Families,
I hope you had a restful and safe winter break. This message is to inform our families that all schools will be open tomorrow at the regularly scheduled times. We continue to remain in frequent contact with local officials and the California Highway Patrol and have been informed that routes to our schools are open. We were also notified that as of this evening traffic on Highway 126 is still being escorted by Cal Trans and CHP.  They are alternating east and westbound traffic because of debris blocking some lanes. The reopening of Highway 126 will allow us to resume bus transportation tomorrow morning for students who regularly ride our buses. If you typically drive your student to school from the Piru area, we suggest that you allow for additional time due to this delay.

We look forward to having our students back at school tomorrow!

Thank you for your support and please be safe.

Sincerely,
Christine Schieferle
Superintendent, Fillmore Unified School District

School Transportation Update

Dear FUSD Families,
Regarding transportation for Wednesday, January 11, 2023.  For students within our District that have been receiving transportation, our Transportation Department is planning on operating as we have since the beginning of the school year.  However, if certain areas such as Highway 126 to Piru, Torrey Road, Guiberson Road, the Bardsdale area, including South Mountain Road are still closed due to the recent flooding and mudslides, some locations may be inaccessible. If your student's pickup location is in any of those areas, they may need to find an alternate form of transportation to and from school. Please understand that Fillmore Unified will make every effort to get all students that require transportation to and from school in a safe and timely manner.

Respectfully,
FUSD Transportation Department

We are so proud of you! Always a Warrior, Forever a Flash!

Last Thursday Sierra students and families celebrated the end of the quarter. There was a lot to celebrate! We have 4 early graduates, 23 students returning to Fillmore High School, 21 students who have never been late, as well as another 100 awards were given for academic excellence as great citizenship!

To our students graduating: We are so very proud of you! The world is a better place with you in it!

To our students leaving us for the high school: Always a Warrior, Forever a Flash! Show them what you are made of!

To our students we get to keep a little longer: Keep pushing yourself towards your goals! We can't wait to see you on January 11th!

A Holiday Message from Superintendent Schieferle

Dear FUSD Community,
Happy Holidays! As we wrap up 2022, I wanted to share how grateful I am to serve as your Superintendent.  I would like to thank our amazing students, staff, families, and communities of Fillmore and Piru for your support. We will continue to remain student-focused and work relentlessly to provide the necessary resources and support so all students can thrive both inside and outside of our classrooms. Reflecting on this past semester, we have been able to celebrate passing a facilities bond, bringing parent volunteers back into our classrooms, full-schedule athletic events, and music and drama performances. Cheers to 2023 and the great things to come for our students in the Fillmore Unified School District! Enjoy the holiday break and we look forward to welcoming our students back to school on January 11, 2023.

On behalf of the FUSD Governing Board, I wish you a joyful holiday season and a safe and happy new year.

Sincerely,
Christine Schieferle, Superintendent
Fillmore Unified School District

We are so grateful for our students and staff here at Sierra!

We are so grateful for our students and staff here at Sierra! Thank you to the families that are sharing them with us. Each member of this school brings us joy. Today we celebrated them with some hot cocoa in the morning, field games at lunch, and a visit from BRITE. The BRITE group presents facts and dispels myths about drugs and alcohol with our students. We also had one of our incredibly talented artists decorate our front windows! Shoutout to Ray, who has created his own window painting business for the holidays!
