Red Nose Day
Mr. Craig’s students celebrated Red Nose Day. This day is one of many service projects at San Cayetano School whereby students learn about the plight of children who live in extreme poverty in the United States and Around the World.
Interactive Family Engagement Event
Interactive Family Engagement Event, This Thursday May 23rd from 6:30 to 8pm in the Fillmore Unified School District's Auditorium located at 627 Sespe Avenue. Learn to spot and nurture seeds of creative strengths in your children with guest speaker Kathryn Haydon.
Kids Heart Challenge Week
Each day, students and staff are participated in activities to remind us to be heart healthy and raise money for The American Heart Association research. Wednesday was Wear Red for your heart day!
Our awesome Fillmore Fire Department came out to take an arial picture of our staff and students who formed a heart in memory of those who have lost their lives to heart disease or heart defect.
Our goal was to raise $1500. All donations were greatly appreciated!
The Ojai Wild Experience at San Cayetano
As part of the 2nd grade unit of study on Animal Habitats students were treated with a great presentation from The Ojai Wild Experience. Students learned about various animals, their characteristics and their habitats and what they can do to keep animals from becoming endangered.
The presenter is Mrs. Beverly Critcher who is the founder of the Wild Life Experience in Ojai.
The Wildlife Experience is a wildlife conservation organization dedicated to wildlife & environmental conservation through community education and provides quality, lifelong care for the non-releasable animals in our charge. They achieve their educational goals by offering CA Life & Physical Science Standard based Outreach Programming in Ventura, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles County schools and participate in Special Environmental and Community Events.
The programs offer environments for people to see the animals they are learning about. This direct connection has an increase in cognitive learning ability and an increase in affective learning, which fosters a deeper appreciation for wildlife and the environment.
Mrs. Sherman's Open House
Mrs. Sherman held an Open House for the Parents of her amazing Room 25 students. Her hard working students have all made tremendous growth on their Individualized Education Plans. It was awesome to see the pride in her students as they hosted their parents around the room showing them samples of their work and art projects!

4th Grade Gallery Walk
4th graders act as docents showing the culmination of a 6-8 week unit on California. The 4th grade students learn about key aspects of California History. Students explain the economic, social, and political life in California from the establishment of the Bear Flag Republic through the Mexican-American War, the Gold Rush, and the granting of statehood. By the end of the unit students are able to Identify the locations of Mexican settlements in California and those of other settlements, including Fort Ross and Sutter’s Fort. Students are able to compare how and why people traveled to California and the routes they traveled (e.g., James Beckwourth, John Bidwell, John C. Fremont, Pio Pico). Students analyze the effects of the Gold Rush on settlements, daily life, politics, and the physical environment (e.g., using biographies of John Sutter, Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, Louise Clapp). Students study the lives of women who helped build early California (e.g., Biddy Mason). Students are able to confidently discuss how California became a state and how its new government differed from those during the Spanish and Mexican periods.
Kinder Gallery Walks
Students act as host, presenting to their parents the key learning and activities that they have engaged in during their 6 week Science unit of study. Students share their writing, chants, art work, draw and labels, and most importantly, share their enthusiasm for learning!

ASB Members Raise Funds For Childhood Cancer

5th Swun Math Support Day
On Jan 25th the teachers of San Cayetano School participated in our 5th Swun Math Support Day. Swun Math instructional Coach Frank Gonzalez visits once a month to support the staff of San Cayetano School by meeting with teachers and conducting demo lessons.
Each grade level team K-1, 2-3, and 4-5 are provided with release time to work directly with Mr. Gonzalez. There is a pre-brief meeting to set up the expectations of the lesson, followed by the actual 60-90 minutes lesson demonstration, and finally ending with a de-brief meeting giving teachers the opportunity to ask questions, share challenges and share the many successes stories of Swun Math Implementation at San Cayetano Elementary.
Our teachers continue to do an outstanding job of implementing Swun Math …evident in the assessment data results. It is a very rewarding experience to observe first hand the positive increase in math proficiency taking place among the students of San Cayetano School.
Winter Program
Hundreds of San Cayetano families and friends enjoyed the performances of students. Each classroom at San Cayetano participated in the December 19th and 20th evening winter holiday shows. Also participating were the 1st and 2nd year band students under the direction of Elementary Band Teacher Juliette Resor.
National Character Day
Character Day is an annual global day that brings together millions of people of all ages in schools, classrooms, companies, homes — anywhere people already gather — to engage in conversation and action around character (strengths like empathy, grit, gratitude, creativity, and leadership). This year was the fifth annual (September 26, 2018), and there were over 200,000 groups participating — that’s 15,000 schools and over 4 million people.Character Day is an annual global day that brings together millions of people of all ages in schools, classrooms, companies, homes — anywhere people already gather — to engage in conversation and action around character (strengths like empathy, grit, gratitude, creativity, and leadership). Western Foundation of Vertebrate Zoology Field Trip
On Tuesday November 27, 2018 the 4th graders of San Cayetano School were provided with a free trip to The Western Foundation of Vertebrate Zoology. The Western Foundation of Vertebrate Zoology is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable corporation. It is both a natural history collection specializing in eggs and nests of birds from around the world, and a research and education institution dedicated to researching and teaching about bird conservation.
The Foundation's collections are among the largest in the world, and its mission is: "To obtain, protect, and manage our ornithological collections in a manner that ensures their accessibility to researchers, educators, students, and the public, and to ensure that the materials are used in projects that contribute to the conservation of the world's wild bird species."
The collections and their data are invaluable to researchers and educators, as well as to students and the public. The WFVZ also contributes to bird conservation through bird education programs for scientific professionals and the public, and field- and collections-based research projects and publications. The WFVZ has contributed information to thousands of research projects since our inception in 1956. The Foundation’s materials play key roles in understanding diverse topics such as avian systematics and evolution; the effects of environmental contamination; and changes in bird numbers, distributions, and habitat use.
