3rd Chumash Gallery Walk
Mountain Vista’s third grade has been working through California history focusing on the American Indians of our local region. The big question students were exploring is “Who were the first people in my community?”
Making Dragons
Mrs. Gray’s 2nd grade class made dragons after finishing the book My Father’s Dragon by Ruth Stiles Gannett.
Barrier Games to Describe Chumash Culture
Students in Mrs. Myers’ class practice using precise academic language playing barrier games. The goal of the game is for student A to describe a photo to student B using precise academic language. If student B guess correctly, then student B describes the next photo for student A to guess.
Mrs. Conte's Class
Students in Mrs. Conte's class enjoy some ice cream as reward for turning in their library books. The class enjoyed their lunch after their field trip to Rancho Camulos.
First Grade Awards
Before winter break our first grade teachers had a classroom awards assembly. Excited to share!
Creating Mosaics in Ms. Figueredo's Class
Students in Ms. Figueredo’s 1st grade class have been experimenting with a new game to create mosaics. Students use teamwork to create their art piece considering design and color choice. I can’t wait to see what they create next!
First Grade Sees the Nutcracker
Mrs. Bautista, Ms. Wright, Mrs. Murphy and 1st graders from Ms. Figuererdo’s class went to see the Nutcracker at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza in December. This is a wonderful opportunity for our student to experience live theater.
Pinecone Painting
Ms. Berrington’s class had fun time painting pinecones for the winter season.
Forces & Interactions
Mrs. Ocegueda’s third grade class explored the idea of forces and interactions. This unit was created based on the Next Generation Science standards. Student’s enjoyed putting their engineering skills to the test!
TK Gallery Walk
Mrs. Vasquez’s class shared all that they learned in the last unit. Students learned about animals and what are some of the basic needs for survival. Students were proud to walk their families to each area in the classroom to explain what they had done. This is just the beginning!
Mrs. Vasquez and Ms. Figueredo’s Holiday Program
Students from Mrs. Vasquez and Ms. Figueredo sung songs to bring in the winter holidays. Families cheered and supported their child’s performance. For many students this was their first time in front of an audience. They did a wonderful job!
Crazy Sweater Day
It was a cool day to wear our crazy sweaters!
Top Chocolate Sellers
Our World’s Finest Chocolate fundraiser was a huge success. These are our top sellers. They earned lunch with the principal at Elkins Golf Course.
Third Grade Celebrates Student Success
The third grade had their awards assembly on Tuesday, December 4th. Awards presented were as follows:
-Wildcat Reading Award- 3.3 or above on most recent STAR test and reading fluency at grade level or above.
- Wildcat Math Award- Average of 80% on all math test in the 1st trimester.
- Wildcat Citizenship Award- Two students from each class who exemplify the Wildcat Pledge for Success.
- Perfect Attendance- No tardies and no absences.
We are proud of each of our students, and continue to support success in both academics and behavior.
1st Grade Gallery Walk
First grade shares what they learned in their most recent unit of study. They learned how to compare and contrast. The big question being what makes us different, and more importantly, how are we the same.
Teamwork in Ms. Figueredo's Class
Students work together to put together a puzzle. They are proud to share their accomplishment with the world.
Space X Launch
A few of our classes went out to observe the Space X launch on Monday, December 3. Classrooms were also able to view the launch via You Tube.
Kindergarten Pumpkin Pie Day
Fun times making pumpkin pie in Mrs. Davis’s, Ms. Rangel’s, and Mrs. Vasquez’s class. Parent volunteers and Fillmore High School post secondary students from Ms. Faith’s class, helped to scoop and measure ingredients. Students took their pies home to enjoy with their families.
Social Emotional Learning Lessons
Elizabeth Servin, Mountain Vista Counselor, goes in to every classroom twice a month to do social-emotional lessons. This lesson focused on how kindness spreads using food coloring to demonstrate this idea to second graders in Mrs. Gray’s classroom.
