On October 20, 2026, the Fillmore Unified School District Board of Education is honored to recognize Mrs. Vera Urrea, who celebrated her 95th birthday on October 23, 2026.

Mrs. Urrea attended Fillmore High School from approximately 1945 to 1949. As the eldest of nine children, she made the sacrifice of leaving school before completing her senior year to work alongside her family in the agricultural fields, helping support her parents and younger siblings.

Although she was unable to complete high school, Mrs. Urrea's commitment to education remained strong throughout her life. She later returned to Fillmore Unified School District, where she dedicated approximately 30 years of service as a paraprofessional, supporting generations of students.

The board of trustees proudly present Mrs. Urrea with an Honorary High School Certificate of Recognition in appreciation of her sacrifices, lifelong commitment to education, and dedicated service to the Fillmore Unified School District.

Fillmore Unified School District Superintendent Christine Schieferle said “Mrs. Urrea, thank you for your contributions to our schools and community. We congratulate you on your 95th birthday and are honored to celebrate you as a valued member of our Fillmore Unified family.”
