The first week of the quarter and the nachos for lunch get a thumbs up. We have a few new students this quarter and they fit right into our Warrior family. It's going to be a great second quarter!
our Great Shake Out earthquake drill
Today the students and staff practiced our Great Shake Out earthquake drill, which included using our search and rescue team to make sure all spaces were free and clear. Our students were professional, mature, and respectful of the serious nature needed in the possibility of a real event. We are confident that if there ever was a real emergency, they will know exactly how to handle the situation. We are very proud of our Warriors!
Lockdown Drill
We wanted to make sure families and community members are aware ahead of time that this morning we are having a practice lock down drill to make sure our students and staff know what to do in the event of an emergency. We will have the School Resource Officers and the Director of Student Services supporting the site to ensure that our system will work well. Our students know we are practicing this today.
Marines visited Sierra today during lunch
Marines visited Sierra today during lunch. Our students showed off their muscles with some pull ups and hang time on the bar. There were some unexpected super athletes in our bunch! They made it look easy!
Meeting with the Air Force
Today Sierra students had an opportunity to speak with a representative from the Air Force. Students were engaged and asked great questions. Did you know that the Air Force has its own accredited community college program that accepts cadets basic training and tech training towards an Associate's Degree, getting them halfway to a 2-year degree? Once the cadet is at a permanent duty station, they can finish their courses at the base.
Quarter 1 is officially done!
Quarter 1 is officially done! We are immensely proud of our students. They worked hard. There were 105 awards given today. We were so thankful to have families join us today to witness their student's successes be rewarded. As a school the students earned 1,540 credits in just 37 days of school! We celebrated our students with certificates and prizes. We are so grateful to our donors who helped gather the prizes. To top it off, today was the first day that our students were able to get their lunch from the new food truck!
Visited by Grizzly Youth Academy
We had a highly informative visit from the Grizzly Youth Academy today. The students listened intently to learn more about this program that is provided by the California National Guard in San Luis Obispo. This is a great option for students wanting to gain confidence, maturity, structure, and 70 credits in five and half months. More information about what they offer can be found at their website: https://www.grizzlyyouthacademy.org/
Thank you to all who serve!
Earlier this week our students had an opportunity to speak with representatives from the Army. We value those who commit to serving in the military and their dedication to protecting the freedoms of our country. Thank you to all who serve!
Cellebrate after a busy week!
Sierra students celebrated the end of a very busy week. All students with high passing grades in their classes earned tutorial time to paint rocks and receive baked goodies while the other small group of students worked on getting those grades up and studied before entering finals week next week. During nutrition all students enjoyed watching a round of balloon stomp that our ASB group organized for spirit points.
10 day count down until the quarter ends!
The 10 day count down until the quarter ends! Sierra is a continuation high school so that means students work at an accelerated pace and earn a whole semester in one quarter. Students late work will be accepted until this Friday at 1:30pm. The following week will be finals week. If you are concerned about your child's grades, please check them on Parent Connect and get them to school at 7:30 am for tutoring and assignment support.
Sierra High School Staff is proud to serve the communities!
The Sierra High School Staff is proud to serve the communities of Fillmore and Piru. Their dedication to caring for each individual student makes our campus feel like a family who has high expecations with the support and nurturing that guides students to success.
Did you know students ages 16 and up can pre-register to vote?
Did you know students ages 16 and up can pre-register to vote? This week was California's High School Voter Education Week. Today we had all students go to the voter registration sight and learn how to register to vote! Some students have more steps to complete. Here is a proud newly pre-registered voter with his reciept.
To register in California you must:
-be a United States citizen
-be a resident of California
-be at least 18 years old or older on Election Day
-not be currently serving a state or federal prison term for the conviction of a felony
-not be currently found to be mentally incompetent to vote by a court

Catapults for science class!
Warriors are fine tuning their catapults for science class. They want to make sure the are accurate and strong so that they can stand up to the competition later this week.
Constitution Day!
Friday, September 16th was a busy day! We celebrated Constitution day with Constitution Bingo and things were competitive! Students wanted to keep playing for 3rd, 4th, 5th...prize. It was rewarding to see students enthusiastically shouting out the answers to the trivia questions. Students learned about the Constitution for 2 weeks through the daily announcements and in Mr. Chavez's law class. They came to lunch prepared with notes and websites to look up as they figured out the clues. We also honored Hispanic Heritage Month with great classic banda music during lunch. Last but definitely not least, we had another great visit with Ventura College and their financial aid representative. We have 60 seniors this quarter and they are all eager to ask questions about financial aid and college life. Our students are getting excited for their futures!
