Career Day

Andrew Cawelti from Ventura College came out to speak to Sierra High School students on Career Day.

Gym owner Jose Ramos spoke to SHS students on Career Day. He talked to our students about the importance of living a healthy life, believing in yourself, and never giving up on your dreams. Sierra High School students enjoyed his positive energy. Thank you Jose.

Captain Al Huerta joined SHS on Career Day. Al brought a few of his partners to talk to SHS students. Thank you Fillmore Fire Department.

Deputy Public Defender Denise McPeak spoke to SHS students on Career Day. Students were very interested in her presentation.

Rosa Padilla, a graduate of Fillmore High School, joined Sierra High School on Career Day. Rosa is a probation officer and she enjoys giving back to her community. Thank you Rosa for joining us.

Q2 Awards

Regina Agapito, Serena Velez, Desirae Topete, Angelica Velez, and Angelica Anguiano. These Warriors chose to stay at SHS and graduate early. Congratulations on your early graduation.

Rosa Alvino received this quarters SWAG award (Superior Warrior Advancing and Growing). Along with her award she received some art supplies. Rosa is an amazing artist and a great student. Congrats Rosa!

David Dunham, Arnulfo Garibay, and Desirae Topete were awarded a Certificate of Achievement. Each of these Warriors do extra without hesitation.

Luis Piceno and Tommy Melton received the Most Improved Warrior Award. Both students have showed progress over the quarter. Luis will be returning to FHS in January. Tommy will remain at SHS.

Brian Bravo, Jade Guzman, and Alondra Magana were awarded the Certificate of Excellence.

Sierra High School Warriors take attendance seriously. These students all received an Excellent Attendance Award. Good job!

David Dunham is Sierra High’s Student of the Month

Congratulations David Dunham! David is Sierra High Schools December 2018 Student of the Month. David is a junior at Sierra High School. His favorite subject is History. Next year, David would like to return to Fillmore High School to complete his senior year. After graduation, he would like to attend a community college. For fun, he likes to go to the park with his cousin. His favorite sport is soccer. David likes Barcelona, his favorite player is Lionel Messi. David shared that the teachers at Sierra High School are helpful and supportive. He will miss Sierra High School when he returns to Fillmore High School. Congratulations David!

Fun Science Lessons

Students analyze gravity coasters. Their objectives are to test, collect data, and evaluate then: (1) Explain why it is important for engineers to understand how roller coasters work, (2) Explain in physics terms how their model roller coasters work, (3) Discuss the effects of gravity and friction in the context of their roller coaster designs, and (4) Use the principle of conservation of energy to explain the design and layout of roller coasters.

1st Quarter Awards Assembly

Sierra High School hosted their Quarter 1 Awards Assembly on November 20, 2018. Over 20 parents attended the assembly. Students received awards for Excellent Attendance, Perfect Attendance, Honor Roll, Principal's Honor Roll, Most Improved, Citizenship, Superior Warrior, and Excellence. Students were also recognized for scoring proficient in math and English on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress.

Agustin Lua is Student of the Month

Agustin Lua has been selected as Sierra High Schools October Student of the Month. Agustin is a junior at Sierra High School. Next year, he would like to return to Fillmore High School to complete his senior year. After graduation, Agustin would like to attend a community college and study Biochemistry. For fun, he likes to play basketball. His favorite basketball player is Giannis Antetokounmpo, he is a player for the Milwaukee Bucks. When asked what he likes about Sierra High School, Agustin stated, “I like the communication that Sierra High School teachers have with their students” Congrats Agustin for being selected Sierra High Schools 2018 October Student of the Month.
