Character Day is an annual global day that brings together millions of people of all ages in schools, classrooms, companies, homes — anywhere people already gather — to engage in conversation and action around character (strengths like empathy, grit, gratitude, creativity, and leadership). Western Foundation of Vertebrate Zoology Field Trip
On Tuesday November 27, 2018 the 4th graders of San Cayetano School were provided with a free trip to The Western Foundation of Vertebrate Zoology. The Western Foundation of Vertebrate Zoology is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable corporation. It is both a natural history collection specializing in eggs and nests of birds from around the world, and a research and education institution dedicated to researching and teaching about bird conservation.
The Foundation's collections are among the largest in the world, and its mission is: "To obtain, protect, and manage our ornithological collections in a manner that ensures their accessibility to researchers, educators, students, and the public, and to ensure that the materials are used in projects that contribute to the conservation of the world's wild bird species."
The collections and their data are invaluable to researchers and educators, as well as to students and the public. The WFVZ also contributes to bird conservation through bird education programs for scientific professionals and the public, and field- and collections-based research projects and publications. The WFVZ has contributed information to thousands of research projects since our inception in 1956. The Foundation’s materials play key roles in understanding diverse topics such as avian systematics and evolution; the effects of environmental contamination; and changes in bird numbers, distributions, and habitat use.

Kinder teachers meet for the first PLC to analyze student performance data, share best practices and back map for upcoming SEAL ELA/ELD Units of study on and Unit 3 SWUN Math Unit on Compare Numbers 0 to 10. Each Grade level team will receive 3 hours twice each trimester to collaborate with their grade level colleagues, while their students participate in three rotations of STEAM Enrichment lesson activities. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.

Staff at San Cayetano School continue to focus on providing explicit instruction in mathematics with carefully designed lessons that match the eight required shifts of mathematical practices. This includes a gradual release of responsibility to students who must be able to articulate their math reasoning in order to achieve true mastery. This school year we are excited to have the support of the SWUN Math program in grades TK-8 that works in partnership with all stakeholders in educating students, parents, teachers and administrators. A powerful part of that support includes onsite coaching.
New iPads!

On Friday September 14, Fillmore Unified School District Technology Department and Ed Services Coordinator Amber Henry provided training to teachers and students in grades K-2 on use of I-pads, its features and how to take care of them. San Cayetano staff is thrilled that Kindergartners, 1st and 2nd grade students are getting their hands on iPads…not just a cool new toy but rather a powerful and versatile tool with a multitude of applications, with educational uses that will have a positive impact on teaching and learning.
