Principal McDaniels' 2024-25 School Year Welcome Message
Dear Mountain Vista Families,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! Our Mountain Vista Team want to make this an amazing year for all our students, families, and school community. I hope everyone had a fabulous summer break! This summer was very busy in the Wildcat Kingdom. As you walk around, you will notice two new shade structures in the kindergarten and playground areas. Our fabulous team of teachers have been getting ready to welcome our students back to campus. We would like to welcome Miss Andrade to our 5th Grade Team, Mrs. M. Dollar to our Kindergarten Team, and Mrs. L. Johnston as our new 4th/5th grade teacher. As you see new faces on campus, smile and introduce yourself. You never know how a smile can change someone’s day! We begin our year reminding our Wildcat community of our Vision and Mission Statements to guide us. Mission: The Mountain Vista Community is committed to academic excellence for all students. Vision: Our vision is to develop well-rounded confident and responsible individuals who aspire to achieve their full potential.
As a staff, we recognize returning to school can be an anxious time for students and families. With the support of our counselor, Ms. Mercado, we will continue to focus on social emotional learning in the classroom using the Second Step Program. Our school is fortunate to have a Wellness Center on campus. The Wellness Center will support student and family needs. Students may utilize the Wellness Center during breaks and lunch times. Teachers may refer students to the Wellness Center when they need a social emotional break. Families may also reach out for support from our Wellness Center staff.
I encourage parents to stay informed and connected to school and Fillmore Unified School District information via Class DOJO, Parent Square, and the District website. This year parents will complete information for returning students online beginning Monday, August 01. You may register on the Fillmore Unified School District website under the Family Resources tab.
Parent engagement and support are vital to student success. We invite all families to joint our Parent and Staff Booster organization. Our purpose is to support teachers and students to enhance their experiences at Mountain Vista. Parents who would like to chaperone field trips or volunteer on campus may complete the Volunteer Application on the District website. Parents are also encouraged to participate in monthly School Site Council and English Learner Advisory Committee meetings. We are in need of 5 parents for the School Site Council. Nomination forms will be sent home in August.
Important information:
Tuesday, August 06 is Schedule Pick-up Day from 1:00pm-6:00pm in the cafeteria.
Wednesday, August 14th is the first day of school.
Our Valet Gate opens at 7:30. Breakfast is free for all students. The first bell rings at 7:55 to enter class. Students should be in their classrooms by 8:00. Students arriving after 8:00 are tardy.
Students may bring a water bottle or a reusable water bottle. We do have refillable water stations. Students may bring a snack for recess, and we offer a second chance breakfast during recess. Lunch is free for all students.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to our school if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Christine McDaniels,
Principal
