Mountain Vista welcomed several community volunteer to share a book with students. This was a wonderful opportunity to have students listen to someone else share their love of reading. Thank you to all who volunteered!
2nd Grade Geology Galley Walk
Geologist here, Geologist there, Geologist, Geologist Everywhere! Our 2nd grade students shared what they learned with their families at the gallery walk.
Dr. Seuss Fun!
Mrs. Myers class had fun measuring, mixing, and making Oobleck. No day honoring Dr. Seuss would be complete without making and eating Green Eggs and Ham!
Engineering Challenge
STEM engineering Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat tower stack! Students in Mrs. Gonzales’ fourth grade class were given a challenge. Students had 2 minutes to build the tallest free standing towers using 25 cups and 6 inch pieces of paper. They then redesigned and rebuilt.
Walk-A-Thon
Despite the weather never cooperating, this year’s Mountain Vista Elementary Annual Walk-A-Thon Fundraiser was a success! We held the event in the quad and blacktop. Students had a great time even when it started to drizzle. Proceeds go to benefit Mountain Vista students.
Mountain Vista Annual Book Exchange
Cookies, milk and books. Families came out to Mountain Vista with books in hand to exchange. Another successful Read Across America event.
1st Grade Gallery Walk
First grade student shared all they learned during the Americana Unit of Study. Based on the History-Social Studies standards the focus was on symbols and landmarks of America as well as the branches of government. Students even had an opportunity to learn about casting votes.
"Heart of the Force" Anti-Bullying Event
Mountain Vista ASB with the leadership of Beth Bronsten (5th grade teacher) organized an anti-bullying event with a Star Wars twist. Heart of the Force is a pledge that the students took to be a “force for good.” Grade levels participated in friendly competitions cheered on by authentic Star Wars costumers. It was a fun time had by all.
Mc Teacher Night Fundraiser
Mountain Vista teachers and staff greeted families and served meals at Mc Donald’s. Many families and community members were there to show their support. The Wildcat made a special appearance and took pictures.
100th Day Celebration
Mountain Vista celebrated 100 days of school with fun activities!
3rd Chumash Gallery Walk
Mountain Vista’s third grade has been working through California history focusing on the American Indians of our local region. The big question students were exploring is “Who were the first people in my community?”
Making Dragons
Mrs. Gray’s 2nd grade class made dragons after finishing the book My Father’s Dragon by Ruth Stiles Gannett.
Barrier Games to Describe Chumash Culture
Students in Mrs. Myers’ class practice using precise academic language playing barrier games. The goal of the game is for student A to describe a photo to student B using precise academic language. If student B guess correctly, then student B describes the next photo for student A to guess.
Mrs. Conte's Class
Students in Mrs. Conte's class enjoy some ice cream as reward for turning in their library books. The class enjoyed their lunch after their field trip to Rancho Camulos.

Creating Mosaics in Ms. Figueredo's Class
Students in Ms. Figueredo’s 1st grade class have been experimenting with a new game to create mosaics. Students use teamwork to create their art piece considering design and color choice. I can’t wait to see what they create next!
First Grade Sees the Nutcracker
Mrs. Bautista, Ms. Wright, Mrs. Murphy and 1st graders from Ms. Figuererdo’s class went to see the Nutcracker at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza in December. This is a wonderful opportunity for our student to experience live theater.
Pinecone Painting
Ms. Berrington’s class had fun time painting pinecones for the winter season.
Forces & Interactions
Mrs. Ocegueda’s third grade class explored the idea of forces and interactions. This unit was created based on the Next Generation Science standards. Student’s enjoyed putting their engineering skills to the test!
TK Gallery Walk
Mrs. Vasquez’s class shared all that they learned in the last unit. Students learned about animals and what are some of the basic needs for survival. Students were proud to walk their families to each area in the classroom to explain what they had done. This is just the beginning!
