The third grade team at Mountain Vista Elementary School hosted their first “Gallery Walk” of the year for their Citizenship and Government Unit. Gallery walks are an opportunity for students to share what they have learned with their families. The students have a checklist of different strategies to discuss and share.
Mayor Minjares Visits Mountain Vista Elementary School
Third graders at Mountain Vista Elementary School are learning about how our government works. Mayor Minjares visited Mrs. Ramos’s and Mrs. Davis’s classes on Thursday, September 20. The mayor explained what the city council does and his role as mayor. The students asked questions like, “How much do you get paid?” The answer is $300 per month if you are wondering. Mrs. Davis’s class wanted the mayor to autograph their notebooks. The mayor happily signed each child’s notebook and encouraged them to register to vote when they are old enough.
New iPads arrive at Mountain Vista
Sixty new iPads were delivered to Mountain Vista Elementary School as part of the districts initiative to get more technology into the hands of students. Each class in grades kindergarten through 2nd attended their first training. Students learned all of the external features of the device, how to take a selfie and send it to their teacher and how to open and close an app. This is the first step in supporting students to use and be responsible users of technology. We want to thank the district technology and curriculum and instruction departments for teaming up to support our students.
