Binational Summer School Program

Fillmore Unified School District (FUSD) is again this year participating in the Binational Summer School Program. The program offers a culturally enriching and academically supportive environment for migrant students during the summer months. This unique program brings visiting teachers from Mexico to local schools, allowing students to engage in bilingual instruction that strengthens both their academic and language skills. Held primarily at Somis School, the program emphasizes cultural history, personalized learning, and the importance of educational continuity during the summer.

This summer, four dedicated teachers from Mexico are participating in the program. Teresita Llova leads instruction for Fillmore students at Somis School. Two additional teachers are stationed at Lemonwood School, while one more is working with students at El Rio School District. These teachers bring with them valuable cultural knowledge and teaching expertise that resonate with the students’ lived experiences, helping to create a meaningful and engaging summer learning experience.

2025 Summer Student Worker Program Technology Services Department

This year, the technology department received seven student workers. The goal was to create groups in these areas:

· Summer School and Classroom Support.

· District Office Device Preparation and Documentation.

· Network Update and Maintenance Support.

Activities include preparing student devices at Mountain Vista, inspecting and maintaining Intermediate Distribution Frame (IDF) closets, and graduating device deployment.

About The Summer Student Worker Program
The Fillmore Unified School District Summer Student Worker Program is a summer employment initiative designed to give currently enrolled students practical on‑the‑job training rather than pure volunteer service. It employs over 50 students each summer across various departments—such as grounds, maintenance, technology, food services, custodial, clerical, and the school farm—allowing them to build real-world work skills like time management and teamwork while contributing to the district. Students are paid at California’s minimum wage, meaning they earn money while gaining valuable experience.
