Update:

All FUSD schools will be open tomorrow, February 5, 2024.

Please allow additional time for your morning commute and please be extra cautious driving.

We are planning for all regular bus transportation routes. In the event of road closures, families will be notified as soon as possible.

We thank you in advance for your patience and  understanding as we continue to monitor all weather conditions.

 

Todas las escuelas del FUSD estarán abiertas mañana, 5 de febrero de 2024.

Por favor, dense tiempo adicional para viajar en la mañana y tengan mucho cuidado al conducir.

Planeamos tener en servicio toda ruta de transporte en autobús. En caso de cierre de carreteras, se notificará a las familias lo antes posible.

Le agradecemos de antemano su paciencia y comprensión mientras continuamos monitoreando todas las condiciones climáticas.

School Open Tomorrow February 5, 2024 [English/Spanish]

Dear FUSD Community,

This message is to communicate to all families that we are planning for FUSD schools to be open tomorrow, February 5, 2024.

We are monitoring the weather conditions and are in communication with local and county emergency staff, and the Ventura County Office of Education. At this time, we do not have any recommendations to cancel school tomorrow.

FUSD staff are taking precautionary safety measures to ensure that all schools and facilities are ready for staff and students tomorrow morning.

We will continue to prioritize the safety of our school community and will monitor weather conditions throughout the evening.

If there are any changes regarding the opening of our schools tomorrow, families will be notified by 6:00 p.m. this evening.

Este mensaje es para comunicar a todas las familias que estamos planeando que las escuelas del FUSD estén abiertas mañana, 5 de Febrero de 2024.

Estamos monitoreando las condiciones climáticas y estamos en comunicación con el personal de emergencia local y del condado, y con la Oficina de Educación del Condado de Ventura. En este momento no tenemos ninguna recomendación para cancelar la escuela mañana.

Fillmore Unified Trustees Recognized

The California School Board Association (CSBA) designates the month of January each year as School Board Recognition Month. Fillmore Unified School District (FUSD) Superintendent Christine Schieferle said, “Please join me in thanking our FUSD trustees for their dedication and commitment to our district. Our governing board works year-round with FUSD staff and administration to ensure our students receive the support and services they need to become engaged and productive members of society. They remain focused on our district priorities to improve academic outcomes, provide safe, welcoming, and respectful schools, and retain and recruit the highest quality staff. They prioritize the upgrade and maintenance of our facilities so our students have schools that are worthy of them. Thank you Trustee Olivia Palacio, Trustee Scott Beylik, Trustee Tricia Gradias, Trustee Sean Morris, Trustee Lucy Rangel, and pictured Student Representative Trustee Camila Morales for your vision and outstanding work as champions for our students, families, and community of Fillmore and Piru.

Fillmore High's Successful Programs Presented at School Board Meeting

Fillmore High School Principal Keith Derrick and Fillmore High staff presented an update on the success of 2023-2024 school year programs, activities, and initiatives. Classified Employee of the Month Rupa Torres, and Certificated Employee of the Month Jeremy MacMahon, were both recognized for their excellent work contributing to the success of Fillmore High students.

Lady Lightning Wins 1st Place at Jamz Holiday Showcase

The Fillmore Unified School District would like to recognize the Lady Lightning cheer team! After a 10 year hiatus, Fillmore High School has a competitive cheer team. Lady Lightning competed at the Jamz Holiday Showcase in Anaheim on Saturday December 9th against 5 other teams and brought home 1st place! Lady Lightning qualified for Jamz School Cheer Nationals which will be held in Las Vegas January 26-27. Lady Lightning is under the direction of Head Coach Caitlin McCall, Assistant Coach Tammy Ferguson and volunteer coach Ellyse Lucas. Go Flashes! ⚡️⚡️⚡️

Mountain Vista Wellness Center Grand Opening

In our continued effort to prioritize mental health, the Fillmore Unified School District celebrated the Grand Opening of another Wellness Center at Mountain Vista Elementary. Sylvia Gonzalez, who joined FUSD’s Wellness Team as a licensed Social Worker, will be at the wellness center providing support to students and families. Thank you FUSD Governing Board, Ventura County Office of Education, Gold Coast Health Plan, and FUSD and Mountain Vista Elementary staff for your support!

FHS Athletes & GPA Celebrated

On December 5th Fillmore Unified School District’s Governing Board recognized Fall Sports First-Team All-League Athletes for their athletic achievements and high grade point average (GPA). Athletic Director Kimberly Tafoya and all Fillmore High coaches emphasize both citizenship and academics throughout Fillmore High’s Athletics Program. Congratulations FHS athletes for all your excellent achievements!

Piru Elementary Wellness Center Grand Opening

The Fillmore Unified School District continues to prioritize mental health and wellness. On Monday, December 4, we celebrated the Grand Opening of the Piru Elementary School’s Wellness Center. The wellness center will provide support to students and families in Piru. We would also like to welcome Sylvia Gonzalez, who has joined the FUSD Wellness Team, as a licensed Social Worker. Thank you FUSD Governing Board, Piru Neighborhood Council, Ventura County Office of Education, Gold Coast Health Plan, and FUSD and Piru staff for your support. We would also like to thank FHS Mariachi, “Los Rayos” for providing an amazing evening of entertainment.

Congratulations FHS student Angie Mota

The Fillmore Unified School District would like to recognize FHS student Angie Mota for winning the Ventura County Office of Education’s Student Logo Design Competition. Approximately 130 students from throughout Ventura County submitted 166 entries for the contest. Angie’s Science Fair design won the competition and is now this year’s logo for the annual Ventura County Science Fair. Congratulations Angie!
