A message from Tom Chan, Director Special Projects and Student Services, Fillmore Unified School District:
“Fillmore Adult School is a place where people re-imagine a future of opportunities for themselves and their families. More than 40 students this year qualified to graduate, meaning they became a U.S. Citizen, earned a high school diploma, or passed the high school equivalency test. I’m beyond proud of our students! The energy, initiative, and commitment to their own learning inspires us to match that urgency and give them all we’ve got. I am beyond proud of my staff for their steadfast commitment to serve the needs of others. I am also deeply grateful for the District and Board of Trustees for their continued support - none of this would be possible without it! Maria Elena Preciado Passes Hiset Test!
Another FAS Student has passed the Hiset test. Congratulations to Maria Elena Preciado, Fillmore Adult School’s latest to pass all sections of the HiSET test! Since August 2018, twenty four FAS students have passed the entire test, earned credits to receive a high school diploma or passed at least one HiSET subject or Cyber High/Apex course. Computer Technology Class at Fillmore Active Adult Center
Our basic computer technology class at Fillmore Active Adult Center is going strong with a cohort of extremely dedicated students. We are now expanding to add a 12 – 2 p.m. ESL class on Tuesdays & Wednesdays starting March 26. Onsite enrollment 3/12 & 3/14 from 12 - 1 p.m.
New ESL/Civics Class at Rancho Sespe
This new class, ESL/Civics in Piru at Rancho Sespe, began three weeks ago and just last night was introduced to computer technology to a packed group of 25 and growing. The children helping us as quasi-tech helpers are parents’ kids, most of whom attend Piru School, and as a one-to-one device school, are very tech savvy! They were a huge help and a resource we will tap into on an ongoing basis. Teacher Ray Barrera has done an outstanding job. He’s a 2nd grade teacher at Piru School, knows all the parents and kids, and his personal connection with the community is why It’s been so successful so far.

First class today at the Fillmore Active Adult Center, 533 Santa Clara Ave. Students in Job Skills for Seniors start their learning with computer and internet basics. Classes are Tues & Thurs 9 – 11 a.m., in English and Spanish. Advanced job skills class begins Nov 26, Mon & Wed 9 – 11 in room 36 Fillmore District Office, in English and Spanish.
